Bosch dishwashers are known for their excellent cleaning performance and reliability. However, even the most well-designed appliance brands need a bit of TLC from time to time to keep their performance pristine. Is your Bosch dishwasher making noise? Thankfully, strange sounds coming from a dishwasher are not an uncommon problem and typically have a simple, DIY solution.
Troubleshooting a Bosch Dishwasher Making Noise
Dishwashers can make all sorts of sounds. From buzzing, to beeping, to even grinding and thumping, we’ll take a look at all of these noises, where they originate, and how to resolve them.
Dishwasher Is Beeping
A dishwasher beeping loudly or constantly can be an annoying problem. “Why is my Bosch dishwasher beeping?” is a common question. A Bosch dishwasher making noise like beeping generally signals the completion of a programmed wash cycle. Thankfully, this normal beeping sound can be disabled or the volume can be adjusted.
The steps to adjust a Bosch dishwasher noise level can be found in your owner’s manual. If you’ve misplaced your Bosch owner’s manual, take a look at the Bosch Instruction Manual Search here.

Dishwasher Is Knocking or Rattling
Is your Bosch dishwasher making noise like knocking or rattling? If you find yourself thinking, “my dishwasher makes a loud noise!”, it may be time to take a closer look at the interior of the appliance and how the dishes are loaded.
A knocking or rattling sound may be caused by the spray arm hitting the utensils or another object from incorrect loading. To resolve this issue, simply rearrange the dishes within the Bosch dishwasher making noise, making sure to allow the spray arms to fully rotate, unobstructed.
In addition to incorrectly loading the dishes, a knocking or rattling sound may be caused by too few dishes in a wash load. Similarly, a small and unevenly distributed load of dishes can cause a bit of noise. Light objects within the dishwasher may shift during cleaning, causing a knocking noise. To resolve this noise, pause the wash cycle and rearrange the dishes so that they fit snuggly within the wash rack and are as evenly distributed as possible.

Dishwasher Is Buzzing or Grinding
Are you wondering “why is my Bosch dishwasher loud?” While a low-level buzzing sound is generally nothing to worry about, a much louder or sudden grinding sound could indicate a pump impeller that is blocked or damaged.
How to Fix Dishwasher Grinding Noise:
- Remove wash baskets, spray arms and filter from within the dishwasher.
- Remove any standing water with a sponge or towel.
- While wearing protective gloves, carefully remove the pump cover. A teaspoon may help pop the edge open.
- Check the pump for any foreign objects, obstructions or build-ups. If found, carefully remove these obstructions.
- After ensuring the pump is clear, snap the pump cover back on. It should make a clicking sound.
- Reinstall the filter, making sure the arrows align.
- Reinstall the spray arms, then baskets, making sure all pieces move freely and correctly.
After removing any obstructions from the pump impeller, run a short test wash to ensure the unit is working properly.
