3 Tips for When Your Miele Range Burners Won’t Light

Precision cooking is a must for any home chef, which is why so many prefer a gas range. When the ease of lighting up the burner and cooking becomes cumbersome due to a finicky burner, then Miele range troubleshooting is in order. If your Miele range burners won’t light, there are a few things to check that could solve the problem.

When Your Miele Range Burners Won’t Light – Try These Tips

Check out these tips for when your Miele range burners won’t light to troubleshoot the problem.

Clean the Defective Burner

One of the most common causes of a range burner not working properly is food debris clogging the gas ports. Over time, as food particles and splattered sauces make their way into the burner housing, burners become clogged and lose their effectiveness. Luckily, regular cleaning will prevent the issue of a range burner not igniting,

Before performing any type of cleaning or service to your range, read your owner’s manual for recommendations and instructions.

So without further ado, when your Miele range burners won’t light, follow these steps to clean them thoroughly.

Step 1: Remove Burner Caps and Heads

For safety reasons, make sure all burners on the range are cool and shut off the gas valve before you begin. Remove the burner cap (the disc that sits atop the burner) and the burner head where the flames disperse. Be careful not to damage an ignition electrode that may be part of your range design.

Step 2: Soak and Scrub the Parts

Soak all the parts in warm, soapy water for 30 minutes to loosen the food soil. Scrub all the parts carefully with a non-abrasive dish pad and brush. Use a metal paper clip, if needed, to clear out debris from small holes. Note: Never use a toothpick, as it could break inside the port.

For stains, scrub with a paste of 1 part baking soda and 1 part water. This may take repeated applications, but will usually do the trick.

Never use steel wool, abrasive pads, or bleach to clean stove burners.

Step 3: Rinse and Dry

Rinse all parts thoroughly, dry with a towel, then allow to finish air-drying completely. While the burner parts are drying, use the soapy water to clean up the grills and drip pans.

Step 4: Reassemble

Once everything is completely dry, reassemble the burners heads, caps, drip pans, and grills. Again, if applicable, take care not to damage an ignition electrode during assembly.

Step 5: Relight Pilots

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to relight the pilot. Unusual flame shape or color indicates something may not have been completely dry, or the burner head or cap may be askew.

Check for Power and Loose Connections

If your Miele range burners won’t light, you may have a loose connection or power failure. Make sure the unit is plugged into the outlet snugly and the breaker is on. The gas igniter needs electricity to create the spark that lights the flame.

Replacing a Faulty Stove Igniter

Occasionally if you have a gas stove clicking but not lighting, the igniter has failed. If power is secure and burners are clean, chances are this is also true when Miele range burners won’t light. If you’re trying to figure out how to fix a gas stove burner that won’t light and suspect a faulty igniter, turn the lights off and see if the igniter sparks blue or yellow. If you see a yellow-orange color, the igniter is weak and needs to be replaced.
